The Museum of Flight will open its doors exclusively for our attendees and their registered guests. Join us and experience a large assortment of exhibits that lead you from the beginnings of animal flight to the history of human flight, as well as exhibits that demonstrate our planet’s weather and its effects on modern-day flight technology. As you enjoy the many galleries of the museum, you will enjoy food stations displayed in various locations around the facility as well as live entertainment.
The Smithsonian Affiliate museum is one of the largest air and space museums in the world, attracting more than 500,000 visitors annually with its expansive glass complex that suspends more than 20 full-size aircraft, and the Red Barn®, the original manufacturing facility of The Boeing Company.
The original papers of the Wright brothers and the one-of-a-kind NASA Space Shuttle Trainer, used to train every space shuttle astronaut since the inception of the program, is a must to see.
Many of the museum’s large aircraft and commercial airliners will be showcased in its Aviation Pavilion, a 9-story, outdoor roofed gallery of 19 rare and unique commercial and military aircraft. The Pavilion includes the world’s only presentation of the first Boeing 737 and 747 jets, the extremely rare Douglas DC-2 airliner from the 1930’s, three big bombers from World War II, and jet fighters spanning the wars from Korea to the Persian Gulf.
Among those on display will be the only Concorde Supersonic Airliner located on the west coast. Also known as the Alpha Golf, this aircraft set a speed record during its retirement flight to the museum in 2003, including flying supersonic for more than 90 minutes over northern Canada.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner on display at the museum is the third one ever built. While on exhibit, the Dreamliner’s interior will be partially configured as an airliner and flight test aircraft, with other displays and artifacts.
AO guests will also be able to see the first presidential jet, a specially built Boeing 707-120. This high-speed “flying Oval Office,” which was known by the call sign “Air Force One” when the President was aboard, has carried Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon as well as VIPs such as Nikita Krushchev and Henry Kissinger.
