Harnessing the Power of AI for Craniofacial Surgery

Dr. Pravin K. Patel is Professor and Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is Director of the Craniofacial Center and Heads the Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery.  He took a circuitous route to becoming a surgeon.  He started his career as an electrical engineer in quantum electrodynamics, worked in industry in laser optics, followed by graduate studies in physics and mathematics.  He trained as a general surgeon at the Mayo Clinic, plastic surgery at Northwestern University with fellowships in transplant at the University of Chicago and craniofacial surgery at UCLA. With his background in electrical engineering and computer science his interest for the past quarter of a century has been optimizing anatomic visualization for resident training and for the practicing surgeon an architectural blueprint for surgery.
